The Shimmy Shake School for Burlesque is a modern burlesque school based in Berlin and Hamburg. Since 2014, Shimmy Shake has been producing events, classes, workshops, and teaching some of Berlin and Hamburg’s best and brightest burlesque students, in addition to curating shows and workshops for venues and private clients. Founded by Australia’s La Viola Vixen and run since 2024 by American burlesque star Lolita Va Voom, Shimmy Shake aims to encourage students to enjoy themselves while generating endorphins, moving their bodies, and feeling good about themselves in a non competitive atmosphere. Lolita aims to foster a new generation of diverse, queer performers with the school, as well as encourage all bodies to enjoy the art of burlesque on and off stage. Born and raised outside of Los Angeles, Lolita attended the University of Washington where she received a degree in History and Cinema studies. After moving to Berlin in 2012, she began her burlesque career at Shimmy Shake, studying under La Viola Vixen. She began teaching and producing burlesque in 2016, and since has toured around Europe including performances at the Stockholm Burlesque Festival, Prague Burlesque Festival, at the Berliner Festspiele, as the first burlesque performer with the Jewish Chamber Orchestra in NDR’s Rolf-Liebermann-Studios, at the Semperoper Dresden, and with popstar Chappell Roan. The Shimmy Shake School for Burlesque is known for its welcoming and professional environment, and its encouragement and enthusiasm for preserving the art of burlesque.
